Here lies the Body of
PAUL TITCOMB son of
JONa. & MARY TITCOMB
Died 26 July 1773
in the 19th Year of his Age.
You that pass by this place may think on me
For as you are so once you did me see
What I am now will quickly be your Doom
My house is straight but by my side theirs room
And if your dust should fall into my Grave
Tis no great matter every man should have
His very dust and neither new nor more
For he that made it keeps it all in store
Old Burying Hill, Newburyport, Massachusetts
The Farber Gravestone Collection located at the American Antiquarian Society has identified the carver of this gravestone as John Homer.
This is fantastic; we don't get quite the same style of iconography in this part of the country, and I'm a little jealous. Thanks so much for posting it!
