    Do you know if he was related to the Roxbury Pierponts?

    I don't know for certain but there is a good chance of it given the time period and proximity. There is a new book on the Pierponts by Helen Schatvet Ullman called "The Pierponts of Roxbury". It is very likely revealed in there.
