Here lyes Buried ye Body of
Mrs. HANNAH BENEDICT Wife to
Mr. THOMAS BENEDICT & Daughter
of Capt. JOHN RAYMOND
She died hopefully July 30th
1766 in ye 34 Year of Her Age
Much beloved & much lamented

Hark from the tombs a doleful Sound
---ch far attend the Cry,
Let everyone come Veiw the Ground
Where they must shortly lie.
Great God is this our ------ Doom
--- are we Still Secure
Still walking downward to
And yet prepare no more.

  1. Marian, these are verses 1 and 3 from a hymn written by Isaac Watts, written in 1707, and sung at the funeral of George Washington:

    Hark from the tombs a doleful sound;
    My ears, attend the cry;
    Ye living men, come view the ground
    Where you must shortly lie.

    Great God! is this our certain doom?
    And are we still secure?
    Still walking downward to our tomb,
    And yet prepare no more?
